Death is Inescapable
theinevitablefate started following you

hades-the-unseen:

Hello.

“Lord Hades.” Atropos bowed deeply to the man, standing straight after a moment.

theinevitablefate started following you…

theoriginalbloodcountess:

The Countess looked over the woman named Atropos, “What brings you to London and to my company, Atropos?”

“I wander the mortal realm often…it has been many a century since I was in London. I wished to see how it has changed. I did not expect to be met with the Blood Countess, though.” She locked eyes with the woman, no expression being shown upon her features. “It has been many a century since you were mortal…though I remember it well. You were the cause of many deaths of virgin women back then.”

I am The Countess and you are?

-Holds out her hand-

“I am Atropos.” She bowed to the woman, tendrils of hair falling into her face as she did. She stood straight once more, looking at the woman.

One More Soul To The Call | Mary Elizabeth McGlynn

Death to the living
The flame has no living heart
In the order of Life they know you there
As you saw it, your plan, a real shot in the dark
Came a little too late
It’s over …

He followed after her, not really caring for the consequences of dropping his gentlemanly guise. He reached out and took hold of one of her arms turning her around to face him, “I did not ask for an apology, nor did I request that you leave. You say you desire emotion yet you do not wish to obtain them, so I will ask you one question: If I was willing to help you gain them, or at least attempt to learn them, would you wish to?”

What he was proposing was likely insane and impossible, but something about the goddess couldn’t help but draw his interest.

The goddess had thought that their conversation was over, hadn’t expected him to actually follow after her and definitely not grab her. She looked up at him, eyes locking with his. “Such a thing is not possible, as I have stated,” she replied. “One cannot learn to feel and one does not simply gain emotions on a whim or because another aids them in attempting to gain them. A being must be born with them, or in my case created with them.”

“Because I cannot stand to watch someone merely wade through their existence acting as a mere puppet! Freedom is a right to all beings, and seeing you so simply content with being manipulated into your roll where there are others equally capable of performing the deed ignites something in me that I can’t simply smother and not acknowledge.” In short, he wasn’t going to stand for the bullshit going down right in front of him.

She was silent as he spoke and even after, simply looking at him. “I apologize,” she finally said after a moment, “but it is not something I can change. I am as I am, there is no changing that fact. And if you dislike it so very much….perhaps it might be best that I do not bother you with my presence again.” She bowed her head to him before turning and walking off, hands clasped in front of her as she did.

The incubus slammed a fist against a tree he was next to, cracking and chipping away a section of bark. He honestly didn’t know how to get through to this woman who had been slowly and steadily brainwashed into believing whatever bile her sisters threw at her. “Yet your sisters and all other gods and goddesses are free to do as they wish, feel as they wish, be what they wish to be regardless of duty. Do your sisters not play an equal part in weaving the path of life all those with strings take? Together, you three are the sisters of Fate yes? Or is your duty of such greater monumental import that you cannot take a moment’s rest?!” He was angry for reasons he couldn’t explain outside of the goddess before him being a slave to fate which she was supposed to be in control of. And more than anything, he hated when such levels of restriction and control were placed on someone without adequate reason, and for Sebastian, this was far from adequate.

Even his anger didn’t phase her; she simply stood there, listening as he yelled and trying to comprehend the reason behind his great anger. And his reasons for not understanding why it was almost vital for her to have no emotions. “My sisters give life, they do not take it. Even so they have no care for the mortals whose strings they weave and measure. Yes, my duty is of such greater monumental importance that I am unable to have a moments rest and I am fine with that. Why can you not be?”

“I understand your reasoning clearly, though I fail to see how your emotions will affect your ability to perform your duty. Your fellow agent of death is in full grasp of his emotions is he not? Or is your role something more vital than his when he rules over the dead?” Sebastian was at his breaking point and he would be damned, more so than he already was, if he was going to allow this woman to continue on like this, goddess or not.

“Think of it in this manner. What if I were to feel pity for every mortal woman that mourned the loss of a child or husband? What if I felt pity for those that begged me not to take their loved ones from them? Or what if I were to fall in love with someone and then be unable to cut their string due to my own selfish wants? These are all things that would come with having emotions, risks that cannot be taken.” These were the things were sisters had told her in the past, things she had come to accept. If she were to have emotions then it might interfere with her judgement. That wasn’t something that could happen.

He wanted to try and start shouting to get his point across but knew it would due no good in this situation, so he merely mimicked her blank emotional look as he calm thought about how blind the goddess seemed to be. “I must clearly not, since I simply cannot imagine one simple soul living for a few spare minutes or hours could disturb the laws of nature all too terribly. After all, even you and Thanatos cannot be simply everywhere to cut every string needed to be cut,” he reasoned. He was mostly spouting nonsense to try and get Atropos to at least consider something besides living as an emotionless windup doll. “If some were to persist for a time past what they are destined for, would it truly be so terrible? Or are you simply that far under your sister’s sway that you’d do whatever they asked of you?”

“A person is let to live past their time, meaning they do things they were not meant to do. This can affect the future of those that have yet to be brought into this world and those who are already in it. I realize it is a difficult concept to grasp, but it is truth.” She stepped closer to him, her gaze unwavering. “I do what I exist to do, and that is to maintain the balance between those entering this world and those that must leave it.”

He took in her words and thought for a moment, yet what she said sounded too rehearsed, as if she had repeated it time and time again… Perhaps that would happen over millennium of existing though. “Yet they desire for you to remain emotionless, the exact opposite of what you desire. If they truly cared for you as siblings would, would they not try to assist you in attaining your one desire? Or is being the cutter of strings simply too important?” Sebastian was unsure why he was becoming so incensed over this, perhaps how he thought of Atropos as being chained to her work where he enjoyed his near endless freedom…

She was quiet for a moment, staring at him with an unchanging expression….or lack of one, anyway. Yet in her mind she was thinking over what he said, playing out past events in her mind. It was true that whenever she would ask or even mention something about her apathy and lack of being able to feel anything that her sisters would play it off as if it were nothing of concern. It had always seemed as though there were something they were keeping hidden from her, but she had no idea what it might have been. They were her sisters, why would they hide something from her? “It is true, my duty is one of extreme importance. You do not realize the implications that might be caused if one does not die when their time comes. If that is what concerns them….then I cannot blame them for seeing this as a better life for me. Were I to have emotions my judgement might become clouded, and that would be dangerous.”
